River Views #59: Around the Bridges 5

The city made sure that the Canada Geese don’t mess up the park around the City Hall, so they just migrated over to the other riverbank on the inner city side. I was able to walk quite near them and all I got was a raised head and some stern looks. As long as you don’t rush them, they stay friendly.

That Iron Bird

There was another very familiar buzz in the air on Sunday: one of the Junkers JU-52 had visited our local airport on the weekend, but I caught it too late and I only managed this blurry shot. But the airplane will be back here next month and I’ll be looking out for it! Unfortunately the other JU-52 from Lufthansa is not flying at the moment because of some structual damage that is being repaired, but the two other ones from JU-Air with the Rimowa ads (I’m not sure which one is in this picture) are still in action!

River Views #58: Around the Bridges 4

Another look over to the other side of the Ruhr to the West, with the long RWW Waterworks building in the middle. Just to the right side is the Schlossbrücke and beyond that on the other side the Stadthalle, our big concert and theatre hall of which a new photo is coming up in this series soon.

Return of the Blimp 2016 Edition

It’s back! That familiar buzz was in the air today and the new WDL Blimp made its first rounds over the city after a winter pause. This is the newly built Blimp that made its debut only in Autumn of last year after its predecessor was destroyed in the big storm of 2014. The Blimp – we often call it incorrectly Zeppelin – is a real icon in our area and everyone really missed it when it was suddenly gone…

Sqiurrelfeeder

We’ve had the squirrels around all Winter, but I haven’t had a chance to take more photos of them. Today one of them checked out the small bird feeder that someone had hung on the trunk of the Maple tree in front of our balconies – and spent quite some time there raiding the bird food! Only a few shots turned out well because the lighting wasn’t ideal and the autofocus was being difficult, but I think this might not be the last time the squirrels have done this – they’ve even been on the balconies a lot!

The Copper Beech, continued. Couldn’t help taking a couple more photos of it!
