River Views #73: Wasserbahnhof 3

Looking South from the bridge that connects Mülheim’s Schleuseninsel with the mainland, you can see the that the bridge is actually on top of the lock. The Wasserbahnhof building is back in the distance.

River Views #72: Wasserbahnhof 2

This is not a photo of Mülheim’s Wasserbahnhof – this was taken from the bridge that connects the Schleuseninsel to the city. The ship’s lock is right behind me, the bridge is actually part of it and this is the arm of the river with the lower waterline. In the distance you can catch a glimpse of the Schlossbrücke, which is about 350 meters further North.

River Views #71: Wasserbahnhof 1

Mülheim’s Wasserbahnhof is the main stop of the Weisse Flotte, the small fleet of cruise ships that travels on the Ruhr river. The Wasserbahnhof itself is this actual building, whose construction started in 1927 and has existed since then in various incarnations as a restaurant or cafe. It’s located on the Schleuseninsel, a small ‘island’ between the ship’s lock and the water power station. At the end of last month, I finally went on a photowalk there and shot a lot of new photos around the area, which will be both a part of the River Views series and later a separate gallery with some additional photos.
