City Views on Tour Special: Deutsches Technikmuseum 113


This is a must-have for Berlin’s Museum of Technology: the Trabant or for short Trabi was one of the few cars produced in East Germany and became famous for its plastic body and very well known in the West after the wall fell. Over three million of them were produced between 1958 and 1990 and for some time there was a regular invasion of them on West German streets in the early 1990s.

This spot in Mülheims inner city right next to the city hall looked different just half a decade ago – in place of this new building complex on the Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse was once Mülheim’s biggest department store, the Kaufhof!

This little camper from the late 1930s in Berlin’s Museum of Technology was the Sport-Berger ‘Karawane’ but it rightly earned the nickname ‘Wanderniere’ (‘traveling kidney’)!

It’s been quite a while since I last posted photos from my home town, but last month I finally took a walk through Mülheim’s inner city with my new 8mm fisheye lens, which made the city look really interesting. We start at Mülheim’s city hall with its distinctive tower!

Judging from the hubcap, the slightly dented green automobile in the backgound in Berlin’s Museum of Technology is an early Saab and in front is a Zündapp Motorbike with futuristic aerodynamic casing – from 1965!
