Moon #146

Yesterday’s Moon, taken with my new Canon Powershot SX30. I’ve never been able to get this kind of resolution and detail out of my previous cameras – the combination of 14.1 Megapixels and the 840mm equivalent 35x zoom are really good for this sort of Astrophotography. As usual, I stacked this photo from about 20 single exposures with Registax to get the best quality.

Today’s full Moon – unfortunately not very detailed because it got a
bit cloudy and the seeing wasn’t too good. It’s still not green, though :-).

It’s not quite full Moon yet – that’s tomorrow – but I can say safely that the Moon is definitively not green or any other colour than normal today, despite all the recent silly rumours! :-)

Yesterday was cloudy, today I caught the Moon a bit earlier and it’s already really small in the frame taken at the same focal length as usual – it’s almost the Mini-Moon at a distance of over 400.000 km!

That’s not today’s Moon, but yesterday’s – and it was somewhat hazy so I had to do some heavy post-processing. This is slightly oversharpenend, but I was surprised how much detail came through.

I didn’t even expect to see the Moon today, but it came through
the clouds for just a moment – perfect for April 12, Yuri’s Night!
