A little video of the WDL Blimp chugging slowly through the sky in the distance. There’s also a Youtube version with multiple resolutions in case the playback of this locally hosted 720p video does not work.

I read that our brand-new local WDL airship is now allowed to carry passengers after a lot of test flights – this photo is from the 18th and I’m not sure if there were already some people on board other than the crew, but it was a nice side shot made with the zoom lens from quite a distance!

The blimp isn’t all white anymore – they’ve got a sponsor now!

This is really the last shot I’ve got of the brand-new WDL blimp for now – this is from September 1st and it hasn’t flown since here, although the weather isn’t really like it anyway!

No airship flights today, but I’ve still got some nice shots left from yesterday.
Here you can see how reflective the new hull really is!

I didn’t expect the blimp to fly this often – today it made a tour
over the inner city again and I got some more even better shots.

One last shot of the WDL Blimp – I’ve heard that those flights were still without passengers because some permissions are still outstanding, but it looks like, even it’s flying well!

Yesterday we saw it far away, today it almost flew over our heads: earlier, the brand new WDL Blimp made a tour over the inner city for the first time. It does look somewhat like a freshly peeled egg, because now the hull is not silver like on the previous WDL airships, but completely white.

The Blimp is back in town! Back in June 2014, our area was hit by a horrible storm, which not only flattened thousands of trees and did a lot of other damage, but also destroyed our local WDL Blimp. It was moored at its mast at the airport and could not be moved into its hangar because the storm hit so quickly. But the company who owns it and has been operating airships from our local airport since over 40 years and they built a brand-new ‘Zeppelin’ over the course of the last year. The inaugural flight was already a few days ago, but today we were able to see it fly from our home for the first time. This new airship is called Theo in honour of the late company founder Theodor Wüllenkämper, who started his business in the 1950s by flying advertising banners with small biplanes.
