We’re having East-ish winds and good weather, so yesterday and today I was able to catch All Nippon Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner again. Yesterday’s photo was somewhat overexposed (if you want you can look at it here), but today I managed this halfway decent shot. It’s not the same airplane as yesterday, though – it’s missing the 787 logo on the forward fuselage, but it’s a Dreamliner allright.

Yesterday I couldn’t catch it because it started in the wrong direction, but today the All Nippon Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner came almost flying over our heads. The flight was a little late and it was already beginning to get dark, so this shot is a bit mushy, but it’s not bad for the first try. Now we know that the Tokyo flight goes north when starting from runway 05, this might be worth trying again.

This is actually not the plane I was hoping to photograph today – it’s an Airbus A340 on its way to the USA from Düsseldorf. The airport has been chucking planes over our heads all weekend, but just as the new ANA Boeing 787 Dreamliner was starting after its first arrival from Tokio, they switched the runway direction and we couldn’t see it. Well, ANA will now be flying the route daily and I expect I’ll catch the 787 sooner or later. If they can fire off a big A340 so low in our direction, I think the 787 should be no problem.

With a small airport in the southeast of the city, we always have a lot of Cessnas and Pipers flying overhead, but this one is still something out of the ordinary: it’s an old Piper Super Cub, one of the most basic planes ever built. I had seen one last spring, but according to the registration, this is a different one belonging to our local flight company WDL which also flies the famous blimp.

I didn’t know you were allowed to fly so close together! I couldn’t believe my eyes when we saw these to buzzing along in the distance – I just managed this one slightly blurry shot, but it’s still strange! The top plane actually has an Air Berlin logo on the tail, it seems to belong to their flight school at our local airport.

It’s not actually unidentified any more, but it sure looks strange with its rear propellor!
This is a Gyroflug Speed Canard which I actually had spotted nearly one year ago for the first time.

The Junkers JU-52 is back in the skies of Mülheim! This is one of the only eight airworthy JU-52’s and one of the two regularly visiting our little airport Essen-Mülheim. HB-HOT is owned by a swiss company and is sponsored by a luggage manufacturer – this is also the one that made a tour through the USA last year and I think it was even at the Oshkosh air festival. The other one is owned by a Lufthansa foundation for historic planes and has also been here this year at least two times. The deep buzz of the engines is unmistakable and sound like nothing else flying around here!

I call the 757s like this because they really look like pencils with wings stuck on :-).

I knew I had a halfway decent photo of Condor’s “We love to fly” livery somewhere!
