Mülheim’s Petrikirche, the protestant church in the inner city. There has always been a church in this location, but the present incarnation was built in 1872, bombed out in WWII and then rebuilt – although it took until 1957 to complete the tower. There are actually photos from 1956 and 1957 in our archives I have posted before that show the church without a tower and later the construction. The tower is, of course, not leaning – I just had a litle trouble with the wide angle of my camera here.

The view from Mülheim’s Schloßbrücke over to the old railway bridge. I’ve just read today that the railway bridge has been closed starting this week so the new pedestrian and bicycle path can be extended over it. I don’t know yet how long this will take, but I’m glad the renovations have finally started and I’ve been up there such a lot of times this year that I don’t mind waiting.

Mülheim’s Kirchenhügel seen from the East. That building next to the Petrikirche is not a historical one, but newly built and just completed this year – there had been a house of roughly the same proportions there until the 1930s, but ever since then there had been some nice trees and a green strip. Unfortunately some people in the city government and the local church had made it their pet project to put a new house here and now the square is very cramped again and the view of the Mausefalle is totally obscured from the East. Needless to say the construction of this house has been highly controversial and I’m not really a fan of it myself.

This statue of the lamplighter lighting the gas lamps is actually a little bit away from the historic inner city on a small square leading down to the Berliner Platz, where the big city begins.

If you stand on Mülheim’s Schloßbrücke, you can see both the famous statue called The Three Graces and the old water power station further down the river.
