DUS – JFK

I caught the first “big” jet with the new camera today – Air Berlin’s A330 to New York. It would have looked better though if I hadn’t set the camera to Auto-ISO accidentially, making some heavy filtering necessary to make it look acceptable. Oh well, next time it’ll work out better!

Goldentail

I’m still practicing catching planes with the new camera… it’s not easy with the more powerful zoom, but sometimes it works. Today I saw this A319 “Babybus” from British Airways with the yellow-golden Dove livery on the tail that was done for the 2012 Olympics – for the first time!

Quad-Liner

I haven’t had the chance for some proper planespotting yet this year, but I caught this A340 flying high over a couple of days ago, leaving a great contrail shortly before sunset.

Moscow Flyer

More experimental planespotting with the new camera – this Aeroflot Boeing was on its way to Russia. It’s still difficult to catch planes with the 20x zoom lens, so sharpness is not quite perfect yet.

First Plane

First attempt at planespotting with the SX1! This Lufthansa Airbus was actually flying pretty high, but the larger zoom and the higher resolution brought it surprisingly close. Can’t wait to get a chance at capturing one of the lower starting A330 or A340, those ought to really fill the frame!

Tiny Copter

There was something< else in the air last Saturday - this tiny helicopter, or maybe it was even a gyrocopter? Either way, it looked like a little one-seater that made an appropriate bee-like noise :-).

Vintage Flight Autumn Edition

This is slightly more blurry that I had hoped, but yesterday this lovely old Piper Super Cub flew almost directly over my head when I was sitting on the balcony. I have seen and photographed this particular plane once before in early March – it apparently belongs to WDL Aviation, the company that also operates the famous blimp, which is being rebuilt for next year after it was destroyed by the heavy storm in June.

A Junkers Autumn

For the second time this October, our tiny local airport got a visit from one of the few surviving flyable Junkers JU-52. This one belongs to the Lufthansa Berlin Foundation and is the oldest surviving airworthy JU-52 – it was built in 1936 and soon will be 80 years old! One thing I noticed today that the Lufthansa pilots start much lower than those of the Swiss JU-52, so I got a pretty close look!

The Usual Traffic

Just one of the many Cessnas flying over our heads on a sunny August day :-).

Auntie Ju is back

We’ve been hearing the familiar engine buzz a lot, but this was the only photo I was able to get from the Junkers JU-52 visiting here at our local airport. Perhaps someone complained about the noise!
