City Views #12: Marienkirche

To balance things out, here’s a 2003 photo of the other church in Mülheim’s inner city, the catholic Marienkirche. I don’t know much about it, except that it was built in 1929 as a substitute for a smaller church and like the neighbouring protestant Petrikirche was also bombed out in 1943. It was rebuilt in 1948 and, well, it’s never been exactly a thing of beauty. In the background you can see one of the four highrises which dominate the inner city today.

Tomato Flood

I’ll better post this before the tomatoes grow even more… it’s not a flood yet, but it could be coming!

Bird Berries

And for a change, something from the street side: the Rowan / Vogelbeere has now sprouted a lot of berries, but they are not quite red yet. But I think they’re going to be a good meal for the birds :-).

Just Visiting

Apparently, I was visited by a hornet the other day – I didn’t even know that they were still around here. This one just stopped for a quick rest on a wine leaf and then peacefully buzzed off again :-).

This A330 from Air China flying from Düsseldorf to Beijing has been buzzing us every evening for several days – but yesterday I finally got a good shot, even with a bit of setting sun giving it a nice glow :-).
