City Views #17: The Old Postoffice

This is Mülheim’s old postoffice, built in 1896. It was still in use in the late 1970s, I still remember going in there when I was a kid. In 1979 or 1980 the city bought the building from the post, turning it first into a kind of community center in 1985 before it was turned into an art museum in 1994. The exterior remains largely unchanged, but there was once a kind of bell tower on the top right, whose remnants are still visible today. The fountain, which you can see in the foreground, is, however a completely different story which I’ll save for a later photo – there’s also a lot of history on the square the building is standing.

Cucumber Harvest

I think that’s a quite respectable size considering that the plant is only growing in a pot on the balcony!
