This once used to be a central point of the city, but now decades of political and economical mismanagement have made this corner of Mülheim’s inner city just a sad shadow of its former self. Many of the shops including the big Kaufhof department store on the right have been abandoned for a long time and there’s not much going on there anymore. The Kaufhof is supposedly going to be demolished this year in favour of a new construction, but it’s really too late for this part of Mülheim.

This one turned out to be out of focus, but it was the only one I managed
with all three blossoms together, so I’m posting it anyway!

Those yellow star-like flowers are now beginning to appear in some spots.

One half of Mülheim’s Berliner Platz – I’ve called this the Temple of Money because most of those buildings belong to the city’s Sparkasse, the local bank. This was all built relatively recently in the late 1980s and it all looks a bit decadent and pompous. I’ve shown an older shot of this before, but this one was just taken at the end of February when I came through there again and had some good weather.

A second view of Mülheim’s old ‘Casino’, one of the older buildings in the city that has survived for almost 175 years. Next time I’ll come by there I’ll take a closer photo of that crest!
