Winter 2017 #22

How about some wintery photos without the snow? Here’s the big
maple tree in front of the balconies, seen from ground level.

River Views #157: Autumn on the Ruhr 57

Here I’m looking North from Mülheim’s Schloßbrücke, you can see the railway bridge I walked over in the previous photos. The distance between the two bridges is only about 300 meters or 1000 feet, but due to the wide angle of my camera lens it looks a lot further.

Good news – the rescued Hyacinths have survived the repotting and are growing and doing well!

River Views #156: Autumn on the Ruhr 46

From Mülheim’s Schloßbrücke, you can see the old water power station at the Wasserbahnhof – the distance is about 600 meters, but I did manage a somewhat clear shot here from this unusual perspective. Usually you’re seeing this building from the other side!

Balcony Flowers 2017 #1

During a brief gap in today’s heavy storms I noticed a colourful spot on the balcony – some Hyacinth bulbs I had forgotten in a flowerbox had started to sprout! I rescued them and put them in a proper flowerpot. And while I took them inside to rescue them from the crazy weather, they still count as Balcony Flowers, so this post marks the beginning of another year of this series :-).

River Views #155: Autumn on the Ruhr 45

The classic view of the Three Graces on the West side of Mülheim’s Schloßbrücke. I’ve show this bronze statue a number of times before – we call it Die Drei Grazien, but it’s actually called Lebensfreude (Joy for Life) and was created by artist Heinrich Adolfs in 1963, a few of years after the current bridge was built. In the background you can see the old water power station further south.

King of the Birdfeeder II

Half a second before takeoff! The Robin had other stuff to do than just perch on the feeder rim :-).
