City Views #31: Central Station II
This is what you see when you arrive in Mülheim an der Ruhr by train, in this case from the direction of Duisburg, from the west. Glamourous, isn’t it? Although this photo was taken in 2004, the platforms nearly look the same today, because only the station building and the access tunnels below were renovated in 2010 – but there was not much done on the platforms themselves. And you might want to think about stopping here, because our central station may be the only one in the whole country without toilet facilities. It has become something of a running joke – they’ve been planning to put a loo in there literally for decades, but even the recent renovations didn’t manage that.
