City Views #241: Gym Destruction 1

To get the City Views going again, here’s some destruction: where Mülheim’s big RWE Sporthalle is standing today (right next to the previously often mentioned supermarket parking lot!) there was once another, smaller gym hall until it was demolished in 2003. Originally it was called Carl-Diem-Halle, but then someone found out that Mr. Diem had not been as innocent as previously presumed during the Nazi regime and the name was changed to Ruhr-Sporthalle. I often had sports class in that hall when I was in school – it was very uncomfortable and stuffy in there, so when they started to tear the place down in 2003 I was glad to have my very first digital camera at hand to take a few photos, which I’ve dug out again for a little series.
