Tree’s Up 2013: Second Edition
A quick, almost straight-out-of-camera shot of our Christmas tree, this time with a bit more decoration. This could only be improved with a bit of snow on it, but no luck at this time!

While looking for something new to continue the City Views series, it occured to me that I wrote a lot about the Berliner Platz but never actually showed the location or any of its buildings. This is the residential complex at the northeast corner of the Berliner Platz which is actually physically separate from the bank buildings a dozen meters or so southwest of them. There are some shops on the street level, most notably a pizzeria at the right corner, but even in 2003 when I took this photo not all of the stores were occupied. And it’s not a prime location for living, being surrounded by high-traffic streets with all the exhaust gases…

To our surprise, we spotted a Woodpecker – actually a Great Spotted Woodpecker – on the trunk of the Maple tree today. We had not seen it around in the last two years, but it was probably only hiding in the trees! Sadly it was very dark and grey and this is the best I could do with my camera, but I’m glad that I was able to get a photo of this wonderful bird at all, even if it’s not my usual quality.

The Balcony Flowers are done, but I kept some other flowery photos from October to have something colourful in December. This series is going to be much smaller, maybe only a little more than ten photos.

I managed to post-process a second decent image of the bluetit
hopping around the Rowan – they like to play hide and seek!

The oak and the birch from across the yard, still very colourful in mid-November. Last night, it snowed a little for the first time, but it didn’t last long and was not particular photogenic – but I wonder when I will be able to take the first proper snow photos! Maybe I’ll dig some out from last year first.

This somewhat blurry photo of a Geranium blossom from November 16th marks the end of this year’s Balcony Flowers. I started the series in mid-June when the balconies began to get colourful, so this was really six months of nonstop blooms and flowers! I have a few non-balcony-flowers from this autumn left, which I will continue to post in the next days to bring some colour into the somewhat dark December.
