City Views #205: Kranbahn

This street in Mülheim’s Siemens Technopark is called Kranbahnallee, literally Crane Rail Alley. You can see the reason for the strange name in this photo: the structures at the sides of the road are a giant crane on rails, the crane itself is located all the way in the back. I don’t think it is used much anymore today, it seems it is more like an industrial monument remembering the over 100-year-old history of this location. I have some more interesting photos from the Technopark which I will dig out soon. Here are the Google Maps coordinates from where I took this photo: 51.439602, 6.883556 – you can actually see the shadows of the crane in the satellite imagery and, of course, the huge nearby Siemens Tower if you zoom in.

City Views #204: KWU Tower II

Another view of Mülheim’s KWU Tower, now known as the Siemens Tower in the Technopark from a bit further away. When you’re walking around in the area, it looks absolutely huge – the tram line from the city comes out of its tunnel right next to it and it looks almost intimidating when this giant tower seems to rise out of the ground next to the street :-).
