This Ladybug has flown – this is only the discarded shell of the larvae.

RIP WDL Blimp

This photo is from Sunday – I just read that our famous WDL Blimp, stationed at the small Airport Essen-Mülheim, was destroyed along with its hangar by Monday’s storm. This is very sad because the company had just gotten a new sponsor and the airship is really an icon of the region. Hopefully they will be able to rebuild it, but it might be very difficult and take some time :-(.

First yellow rose of the season, and it’s not going to be the last!

Springflowers #171

Another slightly rained-on wildflower. We got through the storm last evening fine in our immediate area, but the rest of the city has really suffered with lots of downed trees and everything nasty that comes with it. Public transport is only running sporadically, schools are closed, everything’s really chaotic at the moment. If you’re from the Ruhrgebiet region, be careful out there and watch for shaky trees and roofs with loose tiles!

Another Ladybug larvae in “transit” – we’ve never had so many of them around!

Springflowers #170

More Semi-Wildflowers from mid-May, a little wet. At the moment everything’s wet – we’ve just had one heck of a thunderstorm after the warm weather, but it seems that nothing much has been damaged on the balconies and in the backyard even though it was pretty hefty. But I’ve heard that elsewhere in the city a lot of trees are down and lots of cellars are full of water…
